DAVE CHAPPELLE
Back on Inside the Actors Studio
Remember a few years ago when comedian Dave Chappelle had his meltdown?
Comedy Central offered Chappelle loads of money (like $50 million) to continue doing his much-loved skit show, Chappelle’s Show. Chappelle bolted for Africa, turned down the cash and ditched the show.
He showed up a couple of years back on Bravo’s Inside the Actors Studio, where he sort of, kind of explained his abrupt departure. That was good TV. In fact, Bravo must think so, too, because tonight Chappelle is back on Inside the Actors Studio.
This time, the show’s 200th episode, Chappelle interviews host James Lipton, to revisit past episodes and relive some good moments (Lipton’s had many as host for 14 years).
Hopefully, Chappelle will shed some light on what he’s planning to do (TV, movies?).
He hasn’t been around much the past few years. He had a movie, sort of a documentary about rap music. And he’s had a few marathon stand-up sessions (six-plus hours). A quick search on IMDB shows a project is in the works for 2011.
But Chappelle, and his plans, mostly remain a mystery. Perhaps Lipton, with his light touch, will tease out a little information tonight.
