HAPPY 4TH
Tennis, Ruby and Miss Marple
There are plenty of places to watch fireworks this weekend – out of the house, of course – but on TV, too.
On Saturday, NBC has its annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks and CBS has Boston Pops Fireworks. PBS is gearing its fireworks to families with kids, with some characters from Sesame Street showing up on A Capitol Fourth.
The television networks, you may have noticed, don’t often load up schedules with original programs on holiday weekends, especially not one like the Fourth of July when many of us are heading outdoors.
So, TV pickings are somewhat thin this weekend.
But check out New & Noteworthy, there are a few shows worth slotting into your schedule.
Tennis’s big event – Wimbledon – is winding down in Britain.
ESPN and ESPN2 are airing games and highlights. The final matchups air on NBC on Saturday morning and Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, the Style Network’s original series Ruby is back this weekend.
In case you haven’t heard of the show, its focus is on a morbidly obese woman trying to lose weight, although it gets questionable sometimes if she’s sticking with her diet and workout routine.
Last I checked, Ruby had lost 100 pounds.
The second season premiere of Ruby is on the Style Network on Sunday at 8pm et/pt.
Another show definitely worth checking out this weekend is Masterpiece Mystery, which kicks off new episodes of Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple in A Pocket Full of Rye – Sunday on PBS at 9pm et/pt.
